Leatherworking: Make countless gold with Leatherworking!
Posted on March 4th, 2009 by adminFirst of all many players seem to think that if you have Leatherworking, skinning is automatically the other profession that you must have. While in earlier stages in the game, basically when you don’t have much gold, this is probably a better strategy. However, as you progress further and further into the game you should consider changing Skinning into another crafting profession so that you can limit your time farming and concentrate your time on crafting and other aspects of the game like instances and arena.
Time is not infinite and you have to be smart about how you make your gold. I really like gathering professions because there’s a thrill in finding nodes and herbs and skinning beasts that other players leave behind. However, if you want to make the most of your time choose 2 Crafting professions! With that said, let’s look at some gold making opportunities as a Leatherworker.
Armor Kits
Armor kits are great since many players need them to add stats to their equipment. Some of the armor kits that leatherworkers make are absolutely necessary for players when they are doing end-game instances and raids. This also includes arenas and battlegrounds and that means there is always a demand for these armor kits.
You can sell many of these kits on the Auction House and sell different ones so that you are competing in each market. The basic armor kits that you can make are Borean Armor Kits (+12 Stamina to head, chest, legs, hands or feet) and Heavy Borean Armor Kits (+18 Stamina to head, chest, legs, hands or feet).
When you are crafting these items check the auction house for the prices of each and for materials and determine how much you can make. If it’s worth it then craft them. Rinse and repeat and you will find yourself making a nice stream of gold over time. Be consistent and try to make at least a certain number of each crafted item so that you gold base will continue to grow.
The more gold that you have, the more opportunities you will have to make more gold! An example would be if you had an extra 1,000 gold you could actually buy some things that are at a deep discount (like Frozen Orbs, or Dragon’s Eyes) and sell them for a profit. These items are relatively expensive so you will need a decent amount of gold to buy and sell them consistently. Always keep an eye out for market prices!

As with anything else we have posted on Insiderwow.com always check the market price of the items that you are crafting, buying and selling. This way you will limit your risk of losing money when you are trying to make gold. Also, be creative in the ways that you get these materials! Try getting farmers to COD the items to you so that you can save them the auction house cut and it helps you get the materials for cheaper (always check the Auction House price so that you aren’t over paying!) One way you could do this is to communicate with farmers on a daily basis saying how much you would be willing to buy the leathers, etc. for and work from there. For example 15-20% off the current auction house price.
